The Markets Group
ASIC's Markets Group is responsible for ensuring investors have the trust and confidence to invest in Australia's financial markets and ensuring all Market participants, infrastructure providers and gatekeepers operate with integrity, resilience, and transparency. This is done by managing the end-to-end process for regulating markets including supervision, triage, investigation, and enforcement. The Markets Group also provides regulatory advice, considers applications and engages with stakeholders pertaining to the regulation of markets.
The role
The Market Infrastructure SEL is responsible for strategic oversight and leadership of the team responsible for ensuring trust and confidence in Australia's financial markets.
The Market Infrastructure team is responsible for authorising and supervising all Market Infrastructure operators in Australia. The providers include listing venues, trading venues, post-trade (clearing and settlement), venues, trade repositories, credit rating agencies and benchmark administrators. It also leads the Supervisory Cyber and Operational Resilience Centre (SCORC) designed to support all of ASIC's supervisory business and designed as a ‘hub and spoke' model to support ASIC's supervisory business deliver on their strategies.
The team engages in a range of proactive onsite supervision and assessments, designed to improve Australia's Market Infrastructure to better support the two groups markets are designed to serve; investors and businesses. The team also undertakes a range of policy, project, research and international work and has a dedicated market structure, technology and data analytics team.
The role also involves senior representation in a number of IOSCO committees and other international standard setting forums. Some travel is required.
About you
We are looking for someone with experience at a senior leadership level in financial markets, with relevant government or non-government organisations.
You will have experience in developing policy for market structure or market conduct and in managing compliance and regulatory issues in an evolving environment.
Strategic and analytical skills, along with the ability to the ability to positively influence the culture and capability of a team are essential for this role.
