About the Research Office
The role of the Research Office (RO) is to enhance UQ’s research performance and profile by working with Faculties, research teams and researchers to initiate, facilitate and secure new national and international research funding bids and Fellowships, enhance UQ’s research profile and increase the level, quality and diversity of research funding.
The Pre-Award Grants team works with researchers to ensure that all UQ grant applications are competitive, eligible and comply with sponsor requirements; have the requisite UQ approvals; and are submitted on time. The Pre-Award Grants team works closely with colleagues across the UQ R&I portfolio and with Faculty and Institute professional staff.
About This Opportunity
The Senior Grants Officer plays a key role in enhancing the University’s research activity and performance.
You will support the UQ research community with the submission of research grant applications, ensuring each application is competitive, compliant and completed with accuracy and timeliness. This includes interpreting policy, providing advice and completing administrative tasks in relation to research grant applications.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Delivery of a specialist service, function or processes in accordance with University policies, procedures and strategic priorities.
Service complex matters within their area of specialisation, supporting less experienced staff working within the area.
Provide guidance and training to less experienced team members, including overseeing compliance with university policy and procedure and encouraging a strong customer focus.
Contribute to a work environment of continuous review and improvement of business practices, operational processes and service provision.
Contribute to the development of high-quality documentation including papers, presentations, proposals, communications, briefings, policies and strategies for a variety of audiences.
Contribute to projects, policy review and development, governance matters, compliance and quality and performance reporting.
Build and sustain partnerships and networks with other business units, functional areas, internal and external stakeholders, including contributing to projects and cross-functional initiatives.
We are offering full-time, permanent and fixed term positions at the St Lucia campus.
At HEW Level 7, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $93,254.55 - $101,680.96, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $109,107.82 - $118,966.72 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases – at least once a year.
About You
A degree qualification with at least four years subsequent relevant experience; or extensive experience and management expertise; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
Detailed knowledge of higher education policies and procedures in relation to research administration with demonstrated skills in interpreting and commenting on research policy, rules and regulations and initiating changes to policy where required
Proven experience in research funding management, data interpretation and analysis, as well as managing and resolving complex research funding issues.
Demonstrated experience in supporting and mentoring junior staff in the delivery of quality, customer focused service to stakeholders.
Demonstrated experience in identifying and implementing process improvements.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Highly developed planning and organisational skills, with experience establishing priorities, implementing improvements and meeting deadlines.
Ability to work autonomously with a high degree of decision-making ability.
Demonstrated data interpretation and analytical skills, problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and recommend solutions to challenging issues.
Well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to provide advice and effectively prepare and present complex information.
Advanced computer literacy, particularly with current business management software packages and their various application capabilities.
Ability to work cooperatively and constructively with staff from within a variety of settings from within the University and external to the University.
