Ongoing VPS-4 Senior Graphics Operative position available
About the role:
The “Judicial Support Unit” within the Criminal Identification Unit provides high-end graphic design and multimedia presentations of evidence to support investigations, for presentation by the media and for court purposes.
The purpose of this role is to support investigators by providing detailed, accurate, succinct, and intuitive multimedia presentations of the evidence supporting their investigation/s, allowing people to view and understand the evidence being presented to them in a visual and engaging way.
As the successful applicant, some of your duties will include:
* Ensure the timely production of graphic representations of investigative evidence for complex criminal trials to simplify and explain complex scenarios and concepts.
* Liaise with investigators and informants in order to provide the maximum amount of admissible information in the clearest and most practical graphic form for the benefit of the prosecution and the court.
* Attend court and give evidence in relation to the preparation, configuration and presentation of graphical evidence when required.
* Provide clear and concise advice to supervisors regarding investigative requests, prosecution, directives and comments directly affecting court presentations.
* Provide high-level graphical support including the provision of training in any new software or technologies and conducting presentations to promote the services and skills of the unit.
* Provide high-level project management support to the unit as required.
* Establish and maintain strong effective working relationships with key stakeholders and ensure shared working relationships within a team environment.
As the successful applicant, you will have:
* Demonstrated ability to generate high level multimedia and graphic design material including animations, crime scene reconstructions, digital briefs, static and interactive maps and charts as well as audio and video editing.
* Demonstrated ability to conduct projects, prepare specialised reports, briefs and correspondence on complex issues.
* Well-developed interpersonal, negotiation and influencing skills with the ability to interact effectively in a sensitive, dynamic and confidential environment.
* Well-developed written and oral communication skills and proven ability to provide clear, concise and authoritative advice to investigators and management on complex technical issues.
* Demonstrated ability to conduct research and apply advanced theoretical knowledge to problem-solving and developing recommendations to improve the processes of the work unit.
* Proficient in all Adobe Creative Suite applications with particular focus on After Effects, Animate and Premiere Pro. Other design software knowledge will be advantageous.
* Proficient in front-end web development with experience in HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript.
* Experience with interactive and responsive web design with the ability to design content for a range of digital media platforms
* Basic knowledge of UX and UI design or willingness to learn
* Demonstrate experience in animation, motion graphics and video compositing will be desirable
* Experience in creating digital presentation products following design principles
Requirements and relevant information:
* Position is located at 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
* Tertiary qualification in digital media or multimedia design is desired but not a pre-requisite
* The successful applicant will be required to undergo National Security Vetting, achieve, and maintain a security classification as determined by the Department Head. To achieve this, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
* The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
* The successful candidate will be required to provide a DNA sample (buccal swab) for use in laboratory quality control procedures (elimination purposes only).
* The position may require the incumbent to work outside ordinary hours by negotiation.
