This process will be used for future vacancies across various locations (Brisbane, Mackay, Rockhampton and Townsville), candidates will be assessed based on vacancies in their preferred location and their suitability to perform the duties and responsibilities of the role. We currently have 2 positions available, 1 at each location in Mackay and Rockhampton.
Key knowledge and experience
You will be required to undertake the duties of Explosives Inspector as defined in the Explosives Act 1999 and the Explosives Regulation 2017 including the consistent use of powers.
- Demonstrated practical experience within explosives industries, mining and/or technical and health and safety.
- Respond to explosives incidents in a timely manner to render safe, investigate and report with recommendations to prevent recurrence.
- Mentor, train and expertly advise new Inspectors in specific areas of Explosives safety and security and/or the range of Explosives Inspectorate activities.
- Assist technically and operationally with the management of the Government Explosives Reserve(s) in the Region. Perform risk assessments and develop operational procedures for safety management systems.
- Demonstrated ongoing professional development through technical and health and safety training or equivalent.
- Experience with shift work, on call or after hours roster arrangements.
- Current open Australian drivers' licence is essential for regular, regional travel.
Participate in the Regional Explosives Inspectorate's emergency response program including a ready availability to respond on a 24 / 7 basis, and undertake the explosives render safe, recovery and disposal service provided by the Inspectorate.
Explosive Inspectors are entitled to receive an out-of-hours allowance of $7769 per annum (paid fortnightly) to compensate for being on call for 7 days/nights per week and for overtime performed on Mondays to Fridays (excluding public holidays) outside ordinary hours.
Essential / desirable requirements
• Tertiary qualification in engineering, mechanical or science is desirable.
• Medical assessment and security clearance required.
