The Opportunity
We are looking for a mature, solution-oriented and pragmatic Senior Legal Counsel to join our Australian team of five front-end construction lawyers for 12 months, temporarily replacing one of our lawyers who will be on parental leave.
Based in our Sydney office, you will report to the Deputy General Counsel, Australia.
Your general responsibilities will include providing legal services relating to commercial contracts, insurance and insurance-related matters, developing template precedents, advising on issues of corporate governance, as well as providing general legal support to our Australian business as a trusted and valued advisor.
Day to day, you will be given the opportunity to:
- Draft and negotiate engineering services contracts, standard form contracts/subcontracts and other commercial agreements to support large infrastructure projects.
- Provide legal expertise relevant to commercial decision-making and ensure that all operations of the organisation comply with relevant legislation.
- Develop the legal intellectual capital of the business and develop processes and procedures for the efficient provision of legal services and to mitigate risks.
- Act as the main point of contact for a portfolio of internal/external clients, under the guidance of the Deputy General Counsel (Australia) and the General Counsel (Asia Pacific).
- Deliver a high standard of work, ensuring deadlines are met and clients are kept informed.
- Contribute to training programs for non-legal staff.
What we will love about you
- You are a front-end construction lawyer with at least 6 years of post-qualification experience gained in either an in-house legal team of a construction, engineering or infrastructure company or within a well-known and reputable law firm.
- You have experience in negotiating contracts.
- You are a self-starter, able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- You have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Your focus is to provide commercially focused legal support to the business.
- You are self-motivated, with excellent attention to detail.
- You are willing to research, explore and recommend commercially viable options and solutions.
- You enjoy working as part of a team, are open to new ideas and willing to compromise and share information.
