ABOUTPERTH OFFICE
South32's corporate office is based in the heart of Perth's CBD. The corporate office houses key functions including HR, Finance, Corporate Development, Investor Relations, Group Risk and Technical. Our office is conveniently located a 5-minute walk from the Perth Underground Train Station.

ABOUT THE ROLE
This role is a permanent position on a Monday-to-Friday basis. This role will be based at our head office in Perth.
As Senior Legal Counsel Operations, you will be responsible for direct, independent legal support, leadership and advice to South32's Operations to ensure that legal risks are identified and managed in accordance with the Strategy and Values of South32.
- Provides independent legal advice on strategic and complex projects and on business risks and commercial opportunities, including with respect to mining tenure, land access, environmental approvals, Aboriginal cultural heritage, external affairs and community relations, work health and safety, joint ventures, infrastructure, energy, the procurement of goods and services and major construction
- Leads commercial negotiations with external counterparties and takes an active role in drafting agreements
- Participates in legal due diligence in relation to the business's merger, acquisition and divestment activities
- Ensures effective engagement with other South32 Legal sub-teams and the broader business in accordance with the South32 Legal Operating Model
ABOUT YOU
You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
- Energy and resources, especially in relation to mining and exploration, environmental approvals (State and Commonwealth), Aboriginal cultural heritage, work health and safety and regulatory compliance
- Strategic support on projects, joint ventures, land access and tenure, procurement of gas and electricity supply, water supply, sales contracts, construction contracting and logistics contracting.
- Port, rail and infrastructure contracting
- Joint venture management and associated activities
- Disputes. litigation management and regulatory investigation experience
- Strong legal project management skills with a track record of engagement with senior executive teams and Boards
- Developing and delivering training on discrete legal, governance and risk related topics
Qualifications for this position are:
- Current Australia legally qualified and practising lawyer & 10+ years PQE
