The Opportunity - About the Role
We currently have opportunities for an experienced Legal Counsel or Senior Legal Counsel to join our high performing Group Legal team. This role is based at our Sydney Head Office whilst also having the flexibility to work a hybrid model.

This is a strategic newly created role within our Group legal team that has primary responsibility for management of legal risk in relation to Stockland’s capital transactions with third party institutional capital. This includes providing legal advice in relation to negotiation, documentation, and governance of Stockland’s capital transactions with third-party institutional capital and with financial institutions on associated project finance arrangements for Stockland’s capital partnerships.
This position will also support the General Manager, Group Legal - Capital Transactions and Commercial Property on bids and acquisitions whilst providing governance support for the asset owner areas of Group Legal and operating business teams in embedding / onboarding recent capital partnerships and as the investment management platform grows.
Some of the Key Responsibilities will include:
Build and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders.
Provide legal support to internal teams on contractual and governance matters related to third-party institutional capital.
Draft, advise, negotiate, and execute on agreements with third-party institutional capital, and associated project finance arrangements with financial institutions.
Clearly present and explain contract conditions, details, and risk to internal business partners.
Ensure and track contractual compliance with the Foreign Acquisitions and Takeovers Act and other laws relevant to third-party institutional capital.
Draft, enhance, or implement policies and procedures to streamline operations relating to third-party institutional capital transactions.
About You
We are looking for an experienced legal professional with strong communication skills, capacity to work collaboratively with different functions and a strong team player. You focused on achieving business objectives by offering workable, best fit solution in the context of the organisation’s operating environment.
In summary you will have the following:
Legal Qualifications and current Australian practising certificate
Substantial experience within a top or mid-tier legal firm and/or as an in-house lawyer
Experience managing large transactions ideally within a REIT or Property Sector.
