Senior Manager, External Relations

The Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and driven professional who has a strong background in external communications to fill the newly created Senior Manager, External Communications role.

This position has been designed to help continue the elevation of the Newmont Brand, highlighting the business to various external stakeholders in the Australia Market and is best suited to someone who considers themselves to be a self starter and whom has the ability to translate complex business topics into engaging storytelling content.  

This is a full time permanent position, reporting to the Head, External Relations Australia with a dotted functional like to the Head, External Communications Global. Newmont supports flexible remote working so you'll have the opportunity depending on your location, for team collaboration in either the Perth or our Melbourne Office in addition to working remotely.

The role will include

• Developing and implementing strategic marketing and communications programs that strengthen and reinforce Newmont’s global brand communications strategy across the region.  
• Securing and preparing leaders for speaking opportunities and/or high profile media relations efforts.
• Managing Newmont’s Australian social media presence and be serve as a a content partner for the company’s global channels.
• Executing and providing support on issues management covering a wide range of crisis level reputation drivers.
• Building partnerships with internal stakeholders at every level of the business and across multiple departments and geographies: 
• Researching and identifying appropriate content and messaging strategies that reinforce positive and enduring Newmont storylines/trends Newmont wants to own
• Providing input and research on new tools and media to support the internal/external cascading and dissemination of communications: select vendor management  
• Implementing data-driven processes and systems for measurement and tracking communications campaigns, initiatives and day to day  media impact.   

Your knowledge, skills and experience 

Knowledge: 

• A bachelor’s degree in journalism, mass communications, public relations, English or literature, or a similar discipline. 
• Strong preference toward candidates with mining, construction, utilities or other heavy industry experience is preferred.

Skills:

• Strong track record of pitching and placing stories within tier-one Australian business media.
• Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills, including  experience using the Associated Press standard ~ speechwriting experience a plus.
• Strong planning, organization and project management skills.
• Strong research and analytical skills. 
• Analysis/Problem Solving/Judgment on when to move forward and when to ask questions.
• A customer-centric and service-orientated mindset. 
• Strong personal communicator and adept at working in virtual environments.  
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and skilled at juggling competing priorities and demands from multiple stakeholders.   
• Acts as a collaborative team player. 
• Maintain high performance under pressure and understand processes to ensure quick and timely execution of deliverables. 
• Driven and self-motivated, comfortable with working collaboratively and independently to drive initiatives and execute.

Experience: 

• 10+ years of experience in a similar role. 
• Experience successfully working with media and managing social media presence and engagement; regional media contacts. 
• Ability to translate complicated business topics into engaging storytelling content.  
• Organized and skilled at project management to effectively manage workflow. 
• Basic knowledge marketing and PR tracking/measurement tools, social media tools. 
• Exemplifies executive presence and has a comfort level working with C-suite leaders. 
• Must have experience in working successfully in a high matrixed organization.
