Calling all Media gurus! This part time fixed term Media and Communications Specialist role is a perfect one for a mid-senior professional with 2/3+ years experience with a passion for education.
The Media and Communications Specialist will have strong media relationships and a deep understanding of media strategy, issues management and reputation management. You are an exceptional storyteller and have the ability to convey complex information in simple language.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated external communications experience, including identifying media stories/angles, developing and implementing media strategies, briefing senior stakeholders and managing issues.

Key Accountabilities
Media Relations, Strategy and Reporting
- Develop positive media relationships and a deep understanding of the Australian media landscape.
- Develop and implement holistic media strategies, including messaging, spokesperson profile building and issues/crisis management.
- Brief senior stakeholders to carry out media interviews and coach them on key messages, tone, and delivery.
- Monitor the media landscape, including collating and reporting on media coverage and results.
Story Development
- Work with internal stakeholders and departments to identify story angles that drive positive coverage.
- Build senior stakeholder profiles including thought-leadership, commentary and bylines.
Stakeholder Management
- Build and maintain strong, effective working relationships with key stakeholders across the organisation.
- Build and maintain effective media/journalist relationships.
- Build positive working relationships with media contacts across key government organisations.
- Work collaboratively across business areas, engaging key stakeholders develop a regular cadence of proactive media stories.
External Communications Initiatives
- Identify and coordinate external amplification opportunities including but not limited to awards, events and speaking opportunities
- Develop external communications plans to support the promotion of the Instition's initiatives
