About the opportunityWe are in a period of considerable development to deliver expert and insightful reporting and analysis University wide, including faculties, schools, central units and University exec. As a result, we are seeking a Senior Health and Safety Manager, Systems and Governance to lead a team of Assurance, Reporting, Systems and Project Delivery Safety Partners to ensure delivery of:
- A robust assurance program utilizing internal and external resources to perform Safety Management System compliance audits, specialist audits, and targeted reviews University wide.
- High quality insightful analysis and reporting, discussion papers on a broad range of issues for the university Safety Governance and senior management committees, access to and management of safety performance dashboards.
- Maintain currency of the University Health and Safety Management System, system related tools/databases/software and reporting processes, and Health and Safety policies, procedures, and standards, including oversight and implementation of University wide health and safety system components such as training and safety communications.
The role will support the Chief
Health & Safety Officer (CHSO) translate and disseminate communication of University strategic initiatives into the development of operationally aligned plans for the H&S PSU and its contribution to the University strategy. The role will also ensure relevant and timely health and safety communication across the University.The role will operate at Senate, University Executive, Faculty and Operations leadership team levels, engaging, collaborating and influencing, driving a proactive Systems and Governance strategic agenda and strategic plan. Your high level of business partnering skills will be key to ensuring an effective working relationship between the Health and Safety Professional Services Unit and key client groups.This is a hybrid role (on campus and from home) that could potentially offer flexible working arrangements in the form of condensed working weeks, 4 days PT options for the right candidate.

- extensive practical experience in applying H&S and Safety Management strategies, with experience in a university or technical environment being advantageous
- demonstrated experience in providing leadership, mentoring and guidance to senior staff to enable them to lead cultural and behavioral change
- extensive practical experience of Work Health and Safety with a demonstrated understanding of relevant legislation and policies
- experience in designing and implementing insightful analysis and reporting, discussion papers on a broad range of Safety related issues
- understanding of relevant legislation, Australian standards and guidelines and a detailed knowledge NSW H&S legislation
- a clear, consultative management approach, providing leadership, mentoring and guidance to senior staff to enable them to lead cultural and behavioural change
- a high level of stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to negotiate and influence outcomes
- proven project management experience ensuring key priorities, outcomes and metrics are clearly defined to deliver continuous improvement initiatives
- excellent written and verbal communication skills and significant experience presenting to groups, facilitating workshops, and chairing meetings.
