About this opportunity:

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and General Manager, this position will provide commercial legal services, advice, and guidance to the organisation with particular focus on the contractual arrangements within the Public Private Partnership (PPP) and its participants. This role will also allow you the opportunity to work on a wide range of operational and strategic legal, contract and Compliance matters. Key responsibilities and tasks will include:

  • Providing advice and interpretation of all contractual obligations and clauses in the PPP documentation and Project Deed between the consortiums.
  • Monitoring and providing advice on compliance and results in relation to ICC Sydney’s PPP objectives and contractual objectives and requirements.
  • Drafting, preparing and proofing responses and documents for the Executive team as required.
  • Identifying and recommending constant small improvements to the ICC Sydney Executive team in relation to improved performance of its goals in relation to fore filling its requirements under the contract Deed.
  • Providing advice and assistance in the preparation of venue hiring, management, supplier rights and sponsorship agreements or any other agreement as needed or directed.
  • Providing general legal support and counsel to various stakeholders within ICC Sydney in a wide range of business situations that could include functional areas, including but not limited to Commercial, Partnerships, Operations, Human Resources and ICT.
  • Implementing ongoing development and maintenance of the Company's contract management system as well as ensuring it is up to date and in line with current legal requirements.
  • Liaising and co-ordinating with the Company's external legal advisers and regulators across a wide range of legal requirements.
  • Advising on business licencing and registrations and assist in the management of any litigation, complaints, and disputes.
  • Preparing, filing and updating all required internal reports, and other due diligence-type reports required of third parties including clients.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • L.L.B., Juris Doctor or equivalent degree from a recognised university. Admitted to practice law in Australia (required). It's important to note that the lawyer must be in good standing with the relevant legal association (e.g. NSW Law Society).
  • Minimum 2-5 post-qualification experience (PQE) within a law firm or corporate legal department, with a specific focus on corporate and commercial law.
  • Proven experience in the sports, entertainment, and venue management industries would be highly desirable. Working knowledge of the hospitality, convention, and exhibition industry will also be highly regarded.
  • Proven track record in negotiating contracts, agreements, and dispute resolutions with third parties.
  • Extensive experience conducting legal research, including the use of modern legal research tools and software. Familiarity with laws and regulations in multiple jurisdictions is a plus.
  • Sound knowledge of legal principles, Australian statutes, and relevant local and international law.
  • Proven experience in Australian Commercial LawHold.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex legal information clearly and effectively to a variety of audiences.
  • Strong negotiation and diplomacy skills, with the ability to balance legal risk against business needs and to foster positive relationships with third parties.
  • A high degree of integrity and professional ethics, with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
  • Valid working rights in Australia.
  • Be 18 years or over.
