About the Role
Swinburne University of Technology has an ambitious goal of growth in research excellence, impact and eminence, as set out in its Research Strategy to 2025. The Strategic Bids team in Research Services is integral to this program of work. The team supports the effective management of the whole funding lifecycle for strategic and Major Research funding initiatives across the University. The team’s remit includes competitive funding opportunities such as ARC Centres of Excellence, ARC Industrial Transformation Research Program, Cooperative Research Centres (CRCs), CRC-Projects, NHMRC Centres of Research Excellence and other State or Federal Government funding calls, as well as non-competitive complex, mission-focused, industry-instigated research and enterprise initiatives such as joint research centres and consortia.
The Senior Manager, Strategic Bids, overseas and leads the Strategic Bids team. In this capacity, the role will have primary responsibility for developing and coordinating major funding proposals, including developing bid frameworks, providing strategic advice, bid writing, working with stakeholders to scope and synthesise projects, reviewing proposals, and coordinating strategic reviews, approvals, and final submissions. The role will also oversee the related post-award staff and functions, including contracting, financial acquittals, reporting, and managing risks and resolving complex matters. The position will establish seamless and sustainable research management processes and systems, develop and implement tools and training relating to the assessment of opportunity and risk, and the costing and pricing for strategic and Major Research funding initiatives.

About You
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:
- Substantial experience with applications for and/or establishment of strategic research opportunities including ARC Centres of Excellence, Industrial Transformation Research Program Projects, Cooperative Research Centres, NHMRC Centres of Research Excellence or large research consortia or multi-party ventures.
- Demonstrated ability to proactively influence, negotiate, build and maintain effective networks, collaborations and partnerships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent organizational, project management and evaluation skills with proven ability in showing good judgement, initiative and expertise to effectively complete complex tasks within deadlines, seek advice and escalate matters, when required.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to understand and communicate specialist and complex information effectively and to prepare high level correspondence, reports and advisory notes.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a team and drive performance in the provision of services.
Qualifications
- A postgraduate qualification and extensive experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and training.
