About the Role
They are currently seeking a Senior Media & Communications Officer to join the team in Camden with some flexibility to work remotely from home. This is an estimated 6 week temporary assignment.
Working within the innovative and progressive Communications Team, you will be responsible for identifying and generating proactive media and promotional opportunities whilst managing relationships with the media, delivering proactive and reactive media content and strategic media advice and direction
Responsibilities
- Manage media and communications to support organisational priorities along with crisis communications
- Conduct research and monitor media services, delivering strategic communication advice
- Prepare and dispatch proactive and reactive media content, utilising a range of media channels
- Provide timely, accurate and approved responses to media issues and inquiries
- Establish and maintain effective stakeholder relationships with Ministers’ Offices, media representatives, managers, Government bodies as well as other media and communications staff
- Develop and write compelling and engaging media releases, speeches, briefs and communications content
- Tailor all communication collateral to maintain key and consistent messaging including spokespeople for events and media interviews
- Deliver briefs on issues raised in the media
- Prepare and issue media statements, promoting positive stories
About you
- Impeccable communication skills, both verbal and written
- Great work ethic with a team player attitude
- Strong computer literacy skills and proficiency with MS Office Suite
- Superior organisational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritise conflicting deadlines
- Solid analytical, negotiation, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
Requirements
- Tertiary Qualifications in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Media or an equivalent field
- Proven Senior Media and Communications experience
- Extensive experience in dealing with media and preparing responses on behalf of people in various levels of the organisation
- Experience in handling sensitive, confidential and conscientious information
- Local Government / Public Sector experience desirable
- Flexibility to work outside of standard office hours, when required
- Willingness to undergo a National Police Check
- Fully COVID vaccinated or medically exempt
- Ability to commence and commit to the duration of the assignment
