Foxleigh Mine is located 15km south of Middlemount and approx. 275km northwest of Rockhampton. The mine is in its 24th year of operation producing premium PCI metallurgical coal for use in steel manufacturing. About the Role
Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, we are currently seeking an experienced Senior Mine Planning Engineer to join our Foxleigh Technical Services team.
The Senior Mining Engineer is expected to utilise their experience to drive the operation towards operational and design excellence. This will be defined by their ability to coach, mentor and support personnel within their sphere of influence. The Senior Mining Engineer shall lead by example, demonstrating Foxleigh Leadership behaviours.
This role will focus on schedule delivery from the rolling monthly 12-week plan to the annual 3-year Budget. This planning work will ensure accurate direction is provided to the mine’s short-term team and stakeholders to deliver safe and efficient coal production.
Develop functional working relationships with personnel, enabling timely and effective communication of plans, issues and the general sharing of information; whilst providing support to the Mining Department with technical advice and input, prestart and toolbox communications.
In this role you will:
- Set and demonstrate high health, safety and environmental standards and contribute to a safe working environment for all employees and contractors within the mine operational areas.
- Ensure quarterly production plan (QPP) as well as Budget plans are completed and align with company objectives.
- Stage plans are developed out for 3 months minimum and included in QPP and budget.
- Schedule to ensure appropriate inventories are maintained and critical delays are accounted for.
- Provide strategic technical advice and work closely with the production team to ensure plans are achievable.
- Anticipate risks in the schedule path and develop alternate paths to accommodate variations to progress.
- Ensure geotechnical engagement as required and include environmental considerations in all plans.
- Planning of capital projects to optimise value of assets and monitor and evaluate Mine Planning parameters.
- Review long term reject strategies as well as monitoring progressive rehabilitation.
- Encourage reporting of all incidents and participate in the investigation of any incidents and implementation of corrective actions as required.
- Initiate exercises, processes, or ways of thinking to test alternative strategies with the potential to improve performance.
- Provide all required reports in timely and accurate manner.
About You:
You will have experience in open pit coal mining. Your extensive knowledge of coal mining and planning will ensure your success, as will your exposure to mining software.
You will have excellent communication skills, coupled with high initiative, to ensure that you can liaise with the mine production personnel to support the mine plan and safe work practices.
Experience with Spry (Mine Scheduling), Deswik (mine design) preferred. You will be diligent, self-motivated and an excellent team player with positive relationship building skills, coupled with a high level of attention to detail. A valid Australian Driver's license is a pre-requisite, with a preference to previous mine site driving experience. Candidates must possess the right to work in Australia.
To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will:
- Possess a BSc degree in Engineering (or relevant field)
- Highly motivated, have a strong work ethic and demonstrate safe work behaviour.
- 5+ years' experience in open cut mine design (or similar) and mine scheduling, forecasting, the budget
