Senior Mining Engineer - Drill and Blast
Work Location: Christmas Creek - Christmas Creek mine is located on the traditional lands of the Nyiyaparli people.
Roster: 4D/3R FIFO ex Perth, (8D/6R as required)
We are currently seeking highly motivated Senior Mining Engineer - Drill and Blast to join the Christmas Creek Operations Planning team. Reporting to the Short Term Planning Superintendent, this role is responsible for leading drill and blast engineers, optimal design and scheduling of safe and efficient drilling blasting activities and managing the supply of drilling and blasting consumables, products and services.
Key responsibilities include:
Coordinate team of drill and blast engineers to provide effective drill and blast plans being provided in a safe, accurate and timely manner
Ensure that Fortescue meets requirements around Blast vibration and monitoring around Heritage areas
Ensure drill and blast plans achieve optimal fragmentation for digging and plant throughput
Provide coaching and mentoring to drill and blast engineers
Provide analysis, technical support and reports to mining operations. This includes identification of improvement opportunities, performance reporting and conformance reporting
Contribute to the ongoing performance and improvement of the Operations Planning team
Provide inputs for all planning horizons (2-week to 2-year)
Coordinating with all stakeholders including geology, 2 week planning, drill and blast operations, production and mine development teams
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering or equivalent
Extensive experience in mine engineering in large-scale, open pit mining operation, preferably in iron ore, with a focus on drill and blast engineering
Strong D&B design skills, with experience using electronic detonators, blast vibration monitoring
Experience using Maptek BlastLogic to support centralised record of all operational blast data, and advanced blast tie in design
Experience working with high precision positioning and fleet management systems for recording drilling performance
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical detail to a variety of stakeholders
Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail
Team oriented with the strong ability to take initiative
