Your new role
As a Senior Network Engineer, you will take a significant leading role as part of a team in providing technical direction in the support of major ICT projects and day to day network operations. This will require responsibility for project concept development, design, installation, configuration, security, and operational support of ICT networks. There may also a requirement to collaborate with various specialist and user groups within the Head Office and the Regional Offices. Occasional work in a controlled Data Centre environment may be required.

Role and responsibilities:

• Generate professional documentation related to network infrastructure (Arista / Cisco / Palo Alto / F5 Networks), including high level, detailed and conceptual network diagrams, as built and operational documentation for various audiences including technical and non-technical staff.
• Strong investigative skills to resolve problems, mature judgement and a positive service orientation when providing support, advice, and guidance to users. Demonstrate a co-operative approach to supply of advice and practical assistance to other IT specialists.
• Investigate problems, research new technologies and demonstrate sound judgement in evaluating and recommending the acquisition of new or improved software and hardware.
• Gather technical requirements for the purpose of designing a Data Centre network to be deployed.
• Implementation and migration planning detail and support. Write and execute network test plans for the purpose of validating newly deployed Data Centre networks once the deployment is complete to ensure new infrastructures are capable of carrying production network traffic.
• Work with stakeholders to plan, write, and execute Methods of Procedure documents outlining steps to seamlessly migrate production network traffic from legacy infrastructure to the newly deployed Data Centre Network Fabric.
• Perform Knowledge Transfer Training on Data Centre network Designs, Platforms and assist project management in developing project plans to track deployment project task execution, communication cadence with customers, and timelines.
• Demonstrate and apply expertise and experience in modern ICT Network technologies; specifically:

- Common application protocols (e.g., NTP, DNS, HTTP(s), FTP, etc.)
- Networking principles, concepts, and common protocols (e.g., OSI layer model, Internet and LAN protocols including subnetting, VLANs and VRF, routing protocols, and considerations for their effective application in an enterprise environment).
- Routing and switching technology (Cisco and Arista, and common media types (e.g. copper and fibre) and their interconnections)
- Enterprise firewalls (Palo Alto, or equivalent enterprise wide stateful deep packet inspection, application aware modern firewalls)
- Application delivery and load distribution (e.g., F5 Big IP, or equivalent)

What you'll need to succeed

• Design infrastructure applications solutions that connect all the applications.
• The candidate must state their agreement to have or obtain a baseline or NV1 security clearance.
• Sound knowledge of F5 Network Load Balancers and Palo Alto Firewalls.
• Experience with multiple data centre structured cabling products and vendors.
• Advanced network protocol and Linux Operating System knowledge.
• A detailed knowledge of applicable federal government ICT regulations and controls would be highly desirable.
