Whilst this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other "similar" vacancies throughout the health service. In addition to this, should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised vacancy, then the next most suitable applicant may also be selected from this process. Position Profile: An Occupational Therapist is required to join the Rehabilitation Technology Unit (RTU), which is a specialist technology service within Health Technology Management Unit (HTMU), to support the team in Rehabilitation Engineering Clinic (REC). This service is provided to the East Metropolitan Heath Service and to sites within the South Metropolitan Heath Service including the State Rehabilitation Service.
REC is based in the State Rehabilitation Centre at Fiona Stanley Hospital. The successful applicant will be required to support a dynamic multidisciplinary team that includes Occupational Therapists, Technical Officers, Equipment officers and Rehabilitation Engineers.
Applicants must have a tertiary qualification in Occupational Therapy and be eligible for registration by the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia. Experience in the provision of complex wheelchairs, postural seating, and pressure management is required.
Responsibilities include the assessment, prescription, fitting, and configuration of assistive technology that assists our patient group to maintain their dignity and quality of life.
The applicant would require good problem-solving skills, lateral thinking, and come up with unique designs of assistive technology that are not commercially available to achieve the required outcomes.
The applicant is also required to manage an active case list consisting of inpatient and outpatients with various diagnoses and is required to plan and prioritise the work based on clinical need.
Prior experience with pressure mapping, setting up of alternative controls for wheelchairs, environmental control and mounting of assistive technology to the wheelchair would be useful.
