This is a full-time continuing position with salary in the range $88,099 - $94,512, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%.Bring your gallery, library, archive or museum digitisation experience to work with unique heritage collections at a university ranked in the world’s top 50.Achieve a work-life balance with a range of flexible work options.Work at our vibrant and conveniently locatedAbout This OpportunityWe are looking for a flexible and collaborative Senior Digitisation Officer responsible for handling, curating, cataloguing, and digitising historically significant materials. This role involves operating advanced digitisation equipment to digitise various assets such as photographic prints, film, paper-based materials, artwork, and bound items.As an integral part of the UQ Library Digitisation team, you will assess cultural and heritage collections for digitisation, create workflows, establish schedules, assign tasks, supervise staff activities, and personally conduct asset digitisation. Key responsibilities will include:Handle fragile historical assets to industry standards, including silver gelatin prints, negatives, transparencies, paper-based materials, artwork, and bound items.Assessing historical collections to determine the most appropriate digitisation method and technique including equipment selection and technical output.Applying appropriate cleaning and treatment of photographic assets prior to digitisation to ensure the highest quality archival digitisation of assets.Understanding and implementation of FADGI technical guidelines and IPTC photo metadata standards.Apply a unique identifier system including assigning IDs to physical assets and corresponding digital assets.Operate high-end professional digitisation equipment including Phase One, print and film scanners and large format scanners, including postproduction and digital asset management.Identify and implement process improvements, troubleshoot issues, and continuously develop professional and technical skills to uphold industry best practices.Demonstrate excellent teamwork by actively assisting and supporting staff, including training, supervision and shadowing.Please note this role involves manual handling tasks including moving boxes of assets and equipment as required and pushing and pulling loaded trolleys. Some tasks are repetitive in nature and may involve lifting, reaching, extended periods of standing and sitting.About YouBachelor's degree or equivalent experience in digitisation or photography, with proficiency in digitisation standards, workflows, and technologies.Experience handling and assessing heritage assets, working with various formats, including analogue photographic film, and operating high-end digitisation equipment.Manage digital assets including image curation and postproduction.Applied understanding of FADGI guidelines and IPTC metadata standards.Experience with Phase One, Capture One, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Excel formulas would be highly regarded.Demonstrated ability to work individually, and as part of a team, including self-motivation, prioritization, problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and workload management skills.Support team members including training, supervising tasks, and shadowing.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with demonstrated emotional intelligence and effectively build relationships to engage with diverse groups both internal and external to the University.You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment and may be required to complete background checks including, criminal history and education checks.About UQAs part of the UQ community, you’ll have the opportunity to work alongside the brightest minds, who have joined us from all over the world.Everyone here has a role to play.
