Senior Payroll Officer

  • Salary $91,205 to $98,691 per annum + 11% Superannuation, and applicable increases as per Council's Collective Agreement

The role:

Reporting to the Coordinator People and Culture Support Centre, the Senior Payroll Officer provides timely, accurate and informed advice and services relating to payroll service delivery, whilst implementing policy and operating procedures to administer payroll operations ensuring the timely and accurate processing of all payments and entitlements. The role also acts as an escalation point for resolving more complex queries, provides guidance to Payroll Officers and actively contributes to developing, administering and improving payroll practices and systems.

Key elements of the position include:

  • Payroll service delivery, including responsive and customer centric service.
  • End to end payroll processing, including undertaking month end and year end function.
  • Interpret aspects of Agreements, regulations and legislation on payroll related matters.
  • Conduct periodic and exception reporting relating to Payroll service delivery, compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Inform, administer and update Payroll and HCM Compensation systems ensuring they are fit for purpose.

About you:

To be considered for this position you will have substantial experience in Payroll operations in a complex, medium-sized organisation combined with an applied knowledge of payroll policies, operating procedures and systems. Drawing on established knowledge of payroll policies, process and systems, the ideal candidate will have a proven ability to advise, inform and implement effective practices in Payroll service delivery with a focus on continuous improvement. You'll bring a trusted working knowledge of complex payroll concepts (e.g. leave entitlements, pay composition, tax) to readily resolve complex payroll issues. Key to the position is a high attention to detail and timeliness in meeting deadlines. Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated customer service skills and continuous improvement focus will see you be successful in this role.
