About the positionReporting to the Team Leader Planning, the role of Senior Planner sits within the broader City Development Team and will play an integral part in driving high quality planning and efficient delivery of DA services to support diverse stakeholders across Council, state government entities, developers and the general public.
Key responsibilities are:
- Undertaking the assessment of the most complex and politically sensitive applications, acknowledging that at times a full range of development applications will need to be processed to achieve key performance indicators.
- Providing high level pre-lodgement development advice to prospective applicants.
- Responding to general planning and development enquiries from the community.
- Carrying out inspections of existing and proposed development sites.
- Assisting the Team Leader Planning with continuous improvement activities to ensure efficient and accurate planning assessments and decisions are made.
- Developing, mentoring and providing support to less experienced planners.
- Providing assistance to the Team Leader Planning with the coordination and provision of planning services for Council.
Position description
About you- Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Planner gained from either the private sector or local government.
- Tertiary qualifications in Urban & Regional Planning (or similar).
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act and the Planning and Design Code.
- Highly developed understanding of the political dimensions affecting planning decisions.
- High level ability of assessing the full range of complex development applications.
- The ability to maintain comprehensive knowledge of legislative changes and ERD and Supreme Court planning decisions as relevant to the role.
- Highly skilled and capable in preparing CAP reports, Council reports and general correspondence relating to development applications and customer enquiries.
- Be willing to undergo a pre-employment medical and police check.

Salary range is between $100,107- $106,436 plus superannuation guarantee and will be negotiated commensurate with skills, experience and qualifications.
