The Senior Platform Engineer plays a pivotal role in technology leadership in maintaining the platforms that support our organisation's software and hardware cloud and infrastructure needs. The role requires a blend of deep technical expertise and leadership skills to ensure the organisation's platform infrastructure supports its current and future needs effectively as it shifts workloads and end-user modality to the cloud.
Hands-on technical outcomes are paramount in shaping our organisation's technical infrastructure and is pivotal for navigating the complexities of evolving technology landscapes and business needs.
About the role
People Leadership:
- Act as a mentor to junior engineers, sharing knowledge, providing guidance, and promoting a culture of continuous learning and improvement
- Provide ongoing coaching and promote development
- Engage in recruitment processes as appropriate from time to time
- Ensure compliance with appropriate governance and coordination activities (i.e. technology governance, release coordination, end-user communications, reporting, optimising licensing and entitlements)
Operational Excellence:
- Continuous Infrastructure Optimization: Evaluate and refine cloud infrastructure to enhance performance, reliability, and scalability. Implement automation to streamline operations
- Incident Management: Lead a responsive incident management process, ensuring quick resolution of operational issues to maintain service stability and uptime
- Performance Monitoring: Establish effective monitoring protocols to proactively detect and resolve issues, guaranteeing optimal performance of cloud services
- Patch Management: Develop and maintain a rigorous patch management practices to ensure cloud services are up to date, minimizing exposure to vulnerabilities
- Operational Uptime: Implement strategies to achieve and maintain high operational uptime, ensuring cloud services are reliable and consistently available to users
- Proactive Risk Assessment: Regularly conduct risk assessments to identify potential operational vulnerabilities, developing strategies to mitigate identified risks
- Disaster Recovery Planning: implement robust disaster recovery runbooks, ensuring business continuity in the event of service disruptions
Financial:
- Contribute towards budgeting for cloud & infrastructure operations and project needs as required, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and cost-effectiveness prioritisation and selection of technology
About you
- Minimum of five years of experience in IT roles with a minimum two years' experience in a similar role
- At least 5 years of prior experience working with Microsoft 365, encompassing Teams, Exchange Online, Office 365
- Extensive experience in Entra ID (Azure AD) and Entra ID Governance
- Strong command of PowerShell, capable of scripting to simplify administrative and deployment tasks
- Familiarity with PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) and certificate management.
- Fundamental grasp of enterprise network architectures and security principles
- Experience in cloud adoption, standardisation of cloud services, automation of infrastructure, modern operating models
- People leadership/influencing experience in a technology team
- Experience in working in a multi-vendor environment would be advantageous
- Cross platform experience of technology across applications, databases, operating systems, hypervisors, storage and backup
- Demonstratable experience analysing identity and access management constructs from all angles to identity and close any potential security gaps
- Excellent attention to detail to ensure information is accurate and current
- Digital Transformation experience
- Exhibit excellent analytical skills, the ability to manage initiatives under strict timelines, as well as the ability to work well in a demanding, dynamic environment and meet overall objectives
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal and consultative skills, and the ability to communicate concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
