Remuneration: $111,595 to $124,315 per annum plus Superannuation and Leave Loading

About the team
The Circular Economy Markets team implement policies, programs and initiatives to achieve the NSW Government’s circular economy objectives. The team is responsible for delivering key commitments under the NSW Waste and Sustainable Material Strategy 2041, including actions to support NSW Government sustainable procurement practices and design of the new $13 million Circular Innovation Fund. The team is also involved in developing and delivering actions relating to measuring and reducing embodied carbon in the construction and infrastructure sector.
About the Opportunity
We are seeking to fill a Senior Policy Officer role in the Circular Economy Markets team, up until 11th April 2025. The Circular Economy Markets team is part of the Sustainability and Circular Economy Partnerships branch in the Climate Change and Sustainability division.
In this role, you will develop solutions to complex policy issues, through stakeholder engagement, research and data analysis, legislation review and best-practice policy and program design. You will work closely with colleagues in the division, collaborate across NSW Government departments and liaise with a range of stakeholders and industry representatives.
About You
You will be an enthusiastic individual who is capable of collaborating within a team while also having the capacity to work autonomously. You will have, or be able to develop, strong connections both within and external to the Department to enable you to be effective in your role.
It would be desirable, but not essential, for you to have knowledge and experience in government. However, it will be essential for you to develop extensive knowledge and experience of the work of the Department.
To be successful in the role, you will need be able to communicate effectively (in written and verbal formats), know when to seek direction, and be resilient and adaptable to changing deadlines and priorities.
Key knowledge and experience:
Experience in the review, analysis and development of strategic initiatives, policy and programs, and a demonstrated ability to develop ideas collaboratively and use influencing skills to achieve desired outcomes.
Evidence of using initiative to generate solutions to complex issues.
Demonstrated ability to undertake research and analysis to guide strategic advice and policy direction.
Background in policy development, legislative reform, waste and resource recovery, commerce, environmental protection, economics or sustainability.

The Sustainability and Circular Economy Partnerships branch aims to transform government, industry and communities to a sustainable, net zero and circular economy.
We do this by:
Partnering with stakeholders in the public and private sectors to build a resilient, sustainable economy that supports prosperity and respects planetary boundaries.
Building capability to identify and implement operational improvements to meet or exceed NSW's net zero goals.
Accelerating innovation and market development to drive circularity.
Stimulating the uptake of low-carbon and circular practices and products for homes, buildings and infrastructure.
Supporting local councils and government agencies across the state to lead by example: we plan and help implement projects that reduce emissions, aid the transition to a circular economy and encourage ambitious net zero targets.

About the Office of Energy & Climate Change (OECC)
The Office of Energy and Climate Change (OECC) was established in the Treasury Cluster in April 2022 and consists of the Energy, Climate Change & Sustainability (ECCS) and the Energy Corporation of NSW (EnergyCo).

The Office of Energy and Climate Change (OECC) brings together a range of functions including climate change, sustainability, resilience and adaptation, renewable energy and energy security, waste management and resource recovery, and environmental and mine safety regulation. The work of the group is supported by centres of excellence in science; policy and strategy; and data analytics and insights and is located within the NSW Treasury cluster.
About NSW Treasury
The Treasury Cluster is the NSW Government’s principal whole-of-government financial and economic adviser. The Cluster provides advice to inform budget decision-making, manages the State’s principal financial assets and liabilities, monitors the performance of its commercial agencies, advises on performance and financial management policies, and supports the development of policy advice and implementation of programs focused on climate-change mitigation and adaptation and the transformation to a new low-cost, clean-energy economy.
