About the role
The Senior Principal Lawyerprovides leadership, management, and guidance to a team of legal and administrative staff at both the Ipswich Office and satellite Inala location and reports directly to the Senior Director Legal Practice. This is a challenging and diverse role that offers a capable professional the chance to utilise their management and community engagement skills, while continuing to provide legal services to clients in a complex environment.
In this role you will:
- Lead, monitor and report on the operational performance of the Ipswich and Inala offices and ensure compliance with all professional and corporate responsibilities.
- Lead a large, multi-disciplinary team of professional and administrative staff including the provision of performance management and feedback, recruitment, staff development, conflict management, leave management and other human resource activities.
- Manage the delivery of efficient and effective legal information, advice and representation in family, criminal and civil cases, including duty lawyer services in the criminal and family law courts.
- Represent clients, including preparing matters, instructing counsel and personally appearing for accused persons in all general criminal law matters.
About you
- You have extensive experience in the conduct of summary and indictable criminal law matters
- You ideally also have knowledge of family law and related matters
- You have a detailed knowledge of the practice and procedure of criminal law, evidence and ethics
- You have experience in managing a large legal team including monitoring activities against targets
- You have broad knowledge of human resource functions and actively contribute to the professional development of others
