About This Opportunity

UQ's Queensland Alliance for Environmental Health Sciences (QAEHS) is seeking a highly motivated, organised and experienced Senior Project Officer to support the establishment of QAEHS' Australian Environmental Specimen Bank (AESB).

QAEHS' Australian Environmental Specimen Bank (AESB) aims to deliver a national sample collection of environmental and human samples enabling multidisciplinary, longitudinal and cross-sectional studies to understand exposure pathways and assess short- and long-term chemical and biological hazard exposures. In turn, this will benefit Australian government through delivery of robust scientific evidence for policy making to protect environmental and human health.

As the Senior Project Officer, you will be responsible for establishing the AESB through set-up of processes and systems to develop a high functioning sample bank management system that enables easy access to the samples for research purposes that can accommodate the complexities and challenges of the future. You will coordinate and support a wide range of activities to achieve project outcomes and objectives, including streamlining existing practices and processes, identifying and implementing efficiencies, engaging with stakeholders, reporting progress, arranging agreements, contributing to governance development, and overseeing maintenance tasks. This role requires a person capable of delivering outcomes within a multi-dimensional, fast-paced and challenging operational environment.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating aspects of the project-delivery cycle, including planning, delivery, monitoring, and evaluation to support the successful completion of the project.

  • Providing project and administrative support, including monitoring and reporting on project plans, milestones and deliverables.

  • Coordinating and supporting the development of project-related documentation and other materials including (but not limited to): project plans; scoping documents; evaluation documents; project reporting templates; project updates and other communication materials.

  • Providing a range of secretariat and administrative services, including coordinating project-relevant meetings, activities and engagements.

  • Exercising diplomacy and judgement when liaising with a range of key stakeholders, including (but not limited to) senior academic and professional staff, representatives of peak government and non-government bodies and industry partners.

  • Coordinating aspects of the project budget as needed.

This is a full-time, fixed-term position for 12 months at HEW level 6.

At HEW level 6, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $88,099 - $94,512, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $103,076 - $110,579 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases - at least once a year.

About You

  • A Bachelor's degree with relevant experience or equivalent education/training and experience.

  • Demonstrated experience in providing project coordination and administrative support, preferably in a research environment.

  • Knowledge of sample management systems and project management principals including project initiation, planning and execution.

  • Detailed understanding of processes and equipment requirements relevant to sample management and the intricacies working in a research environment.

  • Advanced technical capabilities in problem-solving and process development ie. data analysis, optimisation techniques and managing project documentation.

  • Excellent time management skills, including the ability to balance competing priorities within tight timeframes.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of stakeholders to provide updates regarding project status and implementation issues.

  • Advanced written and oral communication skills.

  • Experience coordinating diverse stakeholder engagements.

  • Experience using Freezer Pro would be advantageous, or a proven ability to quickly adapt to new project sample management software.

In addition, the following mandatory requirements apply:

  • Work Rights: You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment to apply. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.

  • Mandatory Immunisations: It is a condition of employment for this role that you will be required to provide evidence of immunisation against certain vaccine preventable diseases.
