The Opportunity

Cochlear has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Research Audiologist to join the Advanced Innovation team at our office in Melbourne or Sydney. The role is availbale as either full time or 4 days a week.

The Senior Research Audiologist is responsible for the design and execution of in-house and external clinical research studies that assess, evaluate and validate new technology/product candidates. These studies provide valuable insight and experience with technologies including assessment of safety, performance, stability and maturity for transfer to the product and services plan.

The role provides audiological subject matter expertise (SME) input to the design of the technology and associated research tools, as part of the technology development cross-functional project team, ensuring the transfer of clinical learnings during the development of investigational devices and the closure of knowledge gaps to support strategic priorities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop clinical investigation protocols, including essential documents with the appropriate study design in line with the portfolio strategy, review and critically appraise literature and technical documentation relating to prototype devices to inform study design.
  • Execute clinical in-house investigations in the role of clinical investigator, ensuring high-quality and compliant documentation, approvals, inventory management, data entry and safety reporting as per site responsibilities for clinical studies.
  • Maintain and apply clinical input to technology and product design by ensuring up-to-date knowledge and expertise relating to global clinical audiology practice and use of Cochlear's products; bringing this 'voice-of-the-customer' to informing decisions relating to product design and clinical workflows.
  • Provide training and support to external sites, offering clinical-technical expertise to the set-up and execution of studies conducted with external investigators.


You Bring Your Skills and Experience

Required Skills

  • Masters level degree in Clinical Audiology (or equivalent)
  • Experienced cochlear implant audiologist (2 years +)
  • Clear and effective communicator with well-developed report & technical writing skills
  • Ability to critically appraise and assimilate complex information from multiple sources to inform study and technology design
  • Cross-functional networking and facilitation skills


What will truly make you stand out:

  • Experience in project planning, writing CIPs, CIRs, Clinical Evaluation Reports and scientific publications
  • Experience in early feasibility clinical investigations
  • PhD or experience in scientific domain
