The Senior Risk Advisor is a lead role that provides expert and specialist project risk management advice, capability, and capacity to line management.
This role supports the achievement of operational and risk management requirements, ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory standards.
You will play a crucial role in enhancing safety, efficiency, and strategic decision-making within V/Line, and contribute to our overall risk management framework.
About the role
Focus of role:
§ Risk Management Implementation: Establishing and implementing effective risk management practices across the Projects Group; Adopting industry best practices and complying with ISO 31000 - Risk Management Guidelines and V/Line’s enterprise-wide risk management (EWRM) frameworks.
§ Risk Process Establishment: Developing appropriate risk management processes within Projects to address enterprise and project-related risks throughout their lifecycle; Embedding risk management into day-to-day decision-making processes to align with Projects’ business objectives.
§ Risk Identification and Mitigation: Identifying emerging conditions and minimising uncertainty through the creation of robust treatment plans.
§ Rail Safety Compliance: As an accredited Rail Transport Operator (RTO), ensuring compliance with the requirement to eliminate or minimise risk as reasonably practicable (SFAIRP) under the Rail Safety National Law (RSNL) and ISO 31000 – Risk Management Guidelines.
Responsibilities:
§ Ensure compliance with V/Line’s risk management policies, standards, and procedures.
§ Facilitate risk workshops and undertake risk assessments and reviews for the Projects portfolio.
§ Analyse operational risk management activities and recommend improvements.
§ Provide expertise on risk management methodologies and reporting.
§ Prepare risk reports for Senior Leadership and Executive Leadership Teams.
§ Deliver risk management training to Projects staff.
About you
We are seeking a capable rail professional with 5 or more years demonstrated experience in Rail, Projects, and/or Construction risk management.
Ideally, you bring the following:
§ Degree in risk, engineering, science, communications, business, or finance.
§ Qualifications or formal training/accreditation in contemporary Risk Management.
§ Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or willingness to obtain).
§ Risk management expertise (SFAIRP) compliant with Rail Safety National Law and ISO 31000.
§ Subject matter knowledge in project risks and risk management methodologies.
§ Familiarity with Safety-in-Design concepts.
§ Strong relationship-building skills and ability to identify and work effectively with key stakeholders.
§ Proficiency in complex project environments.
