The Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Systems Engineer to join our Technology and Security team! The role can be based out of our Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth offices. As Senior systems Engineer with Vocus you’ll play a key role in designing and implementing Vocus’ compute systems and related management services, with a focus on best practice engineering, maximum efficiency, and repeatability.
What you’ll be doing day-today
- Designing, planning, implementing Vocus compute infrastructure systems, services, and components, driving forward the use of secure DevOps, SRE and IaC approaches and tools.
- Identifying opportunities for the use of new or existing solutions to improve operational efficiency and reliability.
- Creating and maintaining technical documentation and reports regarding these systems and services.
- Working with appropriate teams to transition these systems and services into operation.
- Providing guidelines, based on industry ‘best practices’, for the use and maintenance of these systems and services.
- Implementing monitoring of these systems and services to ensure optimum performance.
- Managing the analysis of systems performance data and providing recommendations on improvements.
- Participating in business-wide incident, problem and change control procedures and methodologies.
- Collaborating and working effectively with other teams.
- Ability to design and implement secure, resilient, scalable, high performance and cost-effective solutions.
- Detailed understanding of the design of enterprise-grade configuration management and orchestration systems:
- IaC and configuration management: Puppet, Ansible, Foreman
- Containerisation: Docker, Kubernetes, Rancher, or equivalents
- Source code control : Git
- Security by Design
- Install and configure linux and Windows servers of all types.
- Implement clustering and HA solutions
- Detailed understanding of infrastructure models and technologies – including, but not limited to:
- Hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI)
- Virtualisation
- Public cloud (GCP, AWS, Azure)
- Detailed understanding of complex systems monitoring solutions
- InfluxDB, Prometheus, Grafana
- Strong understanding of operational observability and analysis solutions:
- Elastic (including SIEM and APM) or equivalents
- Strong scripting/programming skills
- Go, python, powershell, bash, or equivalent
What you’ll bring to the role
- A tertiary qualification in IT, Computer Science, or a related discipline coupled with experience working in large, distributed enterprise environments.
- 5-7 years of commercial experience in IT/Systems Engineering
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and proven analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work autonomously within a small high performing team and a high level of flexibility and adaptability.
- An enabler mindset, demonstrating leadership and the desire to help build a successful and respected team who add value and deliver services that make a difference.
