The Opportunity
** 1 Year Fixed-Term Contract **
Reporting directly to the General Manager - Tax, this position is responsible for supporting the group tax function with indirect tax compliance and ad-hoc tax advisory matters. You will undertake and deliver key outcomes on indirect tax in relation to compliance with laws and regulations within timeframe. As a part of your role, you will be building relationships and interacting with internal and external stakeholders to provide excellent planning, consulting and expertise.
You will:
- Improve systems and processes for Group tax risk management specifically for indirect taxes
- Support indirect tax governance, indirect tax policies and risk management framework and reporting obligations
- Assist with the indirect tax processes and calculations
- Prepare monthly and quarterly BAS returns including BAS reconciliations
- Assist with other indirect tax compliance matters relating to stamp duty, land tax, payroll tax and FBT
- Provision of indirect tax advice and support with proposed transactions including acquisitions, disposals and developments
- Work closely with external advisors to obtain support for a range of positions across indirect taxes
- Where relevant, work with revenue authorities to secure general advice and private rulings
- Assist in reporting key indirect tax risk to key stakeholders including CFO and Company Boards
- Support ATO compliance reviews and audits
What you'll bring:
- Practical experience in Australian indirect tax advisory and compliance experience obtained in a professional services and/or corporate environment
- Relevant degree qualification (e.g. Bachelor of Commerce)
- Membership of a professional institute (e.g. CA or CPA, Tax Institute (or equivalent))
- Experience with Finance ERP systems
- Tax compliance experience in property / retirement living / real estate sectors (desired)
