Pool Recruitment

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) seek to establish a pool of suitable applicants with one (1) permanent full-time position available for immediate filling. This pool will be valid for a period of 12 months and suitable applicants may be considered for appointment to similar at level vacancies as they arise.

This advertisement will remain open for a period of 3 months, with applications assessed periodically (see eligibility to apply).

About the Role

We are after an experienced radio communications Technical Officer/technician with extensive experience in the installation, diagnosis and repair of radio equipment, including VHF, UHF, HF land mobile radio communication systems and digital, internet-protocol based radio communication systems and networks to join our busy team.

You will:

  • be supervising the technical support team investigating issues and diagnosing and repairing faults.
  • have opportunities to work across various projects with an emphasis on providing specialist technical advice, training, and support on radio communications systems.
  • proactively engage with stakeholders to provide technical support and guidance on matters pertinent to the section support responsibilities with a strong focus on customer support.
  • maintain an up-to-date knowledge of relevant radio communications industry standards, trends, and practices.
  • use your initiative to identify and implement improvements to enhance service delivery.

Prerequisites

Successful applicants must have the following prerequisites:

  • Possession of a relevant qualification in Electronics, Radio Communications or similar, or demonstrated active and well-advanced progression towards same.
  • Possession of a current Western Australian Driver’s License (C Class minimum) which must remain valid for the duration of employment.

Employment Conditions and Additional Information

DFES is an emergency services organisation and all employees may be required to work or travel outside of normal business hours to assist with emergencies.

  • Should your application be deemed suitable for further assessment, you will be invited to undertake a technical assessment in line with the role requirements, prior to an interview.
  • This assessment will be held at the DFES Belmont office in Western Australia, and you will be required to attend in person.
  • Employees in this position are required to participate in a 24/7 on call roster.
  • Employees in this position will be required to attend emergency incidents.
  • Employees in this position will be required to undertake intrastate travel by road or air, normally for short periods.

Eligibility To Apply
