As the Senior Technical Officer (Mechanical & Projects) you will be responsible for providing specialised technical support in the field of physics, electronics, rapid prototyping, and mechanical engineering across a range of teaching and research centres.
The successful incumbent will provide day-to-day management of nominated laboratories and facilities such as the Staff and Student Workshops, and the Physics, Mechanical & Electrical teaching laboratories.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced professional who has high degree of initiative and who can self-manage across a range of functions and tasks.
About You
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:
- Experience in the development, repair, and maintenance of bespoke, industrial and/or laboratory equipment, instrumentation and control systems as applied to teaching and research applications.
- Knowledge and experience in using at least one CAD software package with skills to create meaningful and valuable 2D and 3D designs and ability to interpret diagrams, drawings, specifications and plans to determine suitable material and sequence of operations.
- Experience in workshop management and supervision, and physics laboratory operations including prac setups, purchasing, preparation, maintenance, and storage.
- Specialised skill in the use of a wide range of hand tools as well as machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines and grinders, setting up tools and machinery for fabrication process, including guides, stops and other controls.
- Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety policies, procedures, compliance & induction procedures.
