• Provide technical expertise maximise the profitability and sustainability of the Eastern Region
• Raise the capabilities of the workers compensation underwriting team
• Sydney location

The Senior Technical Specialist role is accountable for maximising the profitability of the Eastern Region, raising the capabilities of the underwriters and ensuring they comply with underwriting guidelines and accepted protocols. The role oversees state and product-based development and profitability of workers compensation portfolios in particular the National portfolios.
What you'll do

• Execution of the pricing strategy to optimise GWP growth and retention, as well achieve target margins and to shape the portfolio mix as needed over the longer term
• Work closely with the state-based underwriters to ensure transactional and aggregated portfolio performance is achieved
• Using experience and capability to influence prices into the market and provide an escalation point for complex quotes and approval of non-standard terms
• Work closely with Distribution, attending meetings and working collaboratively to maximise profitability of workers compensation accounts particularly through International brokers
• Large account technical pricing and referral point for all Underwritten schemes in particular national accounts
• Liaise with state-based claims teams to understand large claims and other claims performance trends that may impact on portfolio valuations
• Drive the development and technical capabilities of underwriters
• Maintain records to support the XOL claims team in run off of this product
• Provide technical capability, education and support to underwriters in both on the job coaching and technical bulletins

What you'll bring

• Degree in Business, Commerce or related field
• Demonstrated experience in commercial insurance at an underwriting level and portfolio level, preferably in workers compensation.
• Demonstrated team leadership and employee technical development
• Experience and insights into the varied national workers compensation schemes across jurisdictions
