Focus Minerals (FML) is a leading Australian gold explorer with tenure in Coolgardie and Laverton, two exciting gold regions in WA, and is the largest landholder in the Coolgardie goldfields with over 450sq km of tenements. Resumption of operations commenced in 2023 and FML has now commenced the planning and execution phase of bringing its Bonnie Vale new underground operation online, located 10km north of its 1.2 Mtpa Three Mile Hill processing plant.
About The Role
The UG Senior Mining Engineer works collaboratively with the mining technical and operations teams to ensure mine designs, schedules and development plans to support mine production are robust, safe and efficient. The role includes taking lead and control in the development, implementation and maintenance of effective mine planning processes and standards.
This permanent, full-time role is based in Coolgardie WA, an iconic mining town, with a new accommodation village that has been built within the Coolgardie township. The FIFO roster is primarily an 8/6 dayshift rotation from Perth or residential Kalgoorlie/Coolgardie region.
Responsibilities
- Optimise LOM design and schedule
- Provide the operations team with fit for purpose designs and plans
- Develop and communicate monthly rolling quarterly schedules targeted at delivering budget production
- Develop stope extraction plans targeted at maximising the mining recovery of the ore resource – plans to minimise ore dilution, ore loss (underbreak) and to maximise efficiency of the stoping cycle (drilling, bogging and backfilling)
- Develop, implement and maintain stope reconciliation process targeted at identifying improvements to design, planning and execution processes
- Incorporate infrastructure and services supporting the underground operations such as power, pumping, ventilation into the planning process
- Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to junior engineers
- Incorporate economic evaluations into the optimisation of designs
- Assist the management team in the development of annual budgets
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor of Mining Engineering degree
- A minimum of 7 years’ experience in Underground Mining (planning and operations) with a minimum of 2 years at a Senior level
- Prior experience in leading mining technical teams
- Experience in narrow to wide orebody gold mining
- Competency in the use of mine planning software (preferably Deswik)
- Experience in LOM planning
