Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa.
Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio. The Role:
The primary duty of this role involves supervising and providing specialised expertise in the underground mine's paste fill, mine services, and shotcrete operations with direct reporting to the Backfill and Services Superintendent.
This comprehensive role entails overseeing and managing all facets of underground paste fill operations and services. This includes the installation and upkeep of air and water services, secondary ventilation systems, paste fill distribution, and the construction of ventilation and paste bulkhead barriers. Responsibilities also encompass supervising the delivery and application of shotcrete, as well as the daily operation of the paste plant to align with the mine's backfill strategy.
The position involves leading a team of underground operators and demands robust leadership, organisational, and stakeholder management abilities.
Key Accountabilities:
- Manage a team of underground operators, encompassing team development, setting personal objectives, and performance management as needed.
- Coordinate all paste fill and service activities to align with the Business Plan.
- Conduct regular workplace inspections to ensure adherence to Newmont's procedures and policies, including Fatality Risk Critical Control verifications.
- Provide leadership during daily and weekly safety and pre-start meetings.
- Oversee and ensure the safe installation and maintenance of air, water, and dewatering services, secondary ventilation, shotcrete with QA/QC, paste fill reticulation, and the construction of bulkhead walls and concrete pads.
- Manage the underground paste backfill to stopes, perform underground inspections, and oversee the condition and management of underground facilities, including crib rooms and ablutions.
You, The Person:
- Demonstrated experience in a supervisory capacity within underground mining, preferably with expertise in pastefill and/or shotcrete.
- Outstanding planning and organisational abilities.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written, along with computer literacy.
- The capability to promote an environment of inclusion, diversity, collaboration, and innovation.
- Possession of a valid Australian driver's license.
- Holding a Western Australian Underground Shift Supervisor certificate of competency is considered an asset.
Working Conditions:
The role includes a FIFO roster of 7 days on, 7 nights on, followed by 14 days off. Approved departure locations are Darwin, Alice Springs, Perth, and Brisbane.
