ABOUT BUNDANON

Bundanon is an art museum embedded in a 1,000 hectare landscape, in the Shoalhaven region of NSW. The organisation’s mission is to operate the Bundanon properties as a centre for creative arts and education, to support the development of arts practice across all disciplines and to enable public access to the arts and to the landscape. Bundanon’s vision is to promote creativity and learning based in a unique cultural and natural landscape.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Sessional Learning Officer is responsible for effectively delivering the Bundanon learning curriculum, focusing on creativity and critical engagement in art and design. This role involves teaching diverse art media, implementing inclusive and evidence-informed teaching practices, and promoting experiential learning. Key duties include facilitating educational programs that incorporate Aboriginal knowledge, conducting tours of Bundanon’s sites, and collaborating with various educational and community groups. The officer ensures all programs are accessible, respectful, and tailored to meet the diverse needs of participants, supporting Bundanon’s commitment to educational excellence and cultural enrichment.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Facilitate Learning Programs

  • Facilitate Bundanon learning curriculum accurately and inclusively, sustaining a strong focus on student learning needs and excellence in creativity education.
  • Teach a range of art and design media drawing on evidence-informed teaching and learning practices.
  • Prioritise and enact pedagogy that supports learners to engage in critical thinking, creative problem solving, collaboration and experiential learning.
  • Deliver curriculum that is inclusive of and responsive to Aboriginal ways of knowing, being and doing.
  • Deliver learning programs in a manner that is inclusive, democratic and actively respects diverse learners’ prior knowledge, needs, abilities and aspirations.
  • Deliver learning programs working to a timetabled agenda.
  • Work effectively with teachers, primary, secondary and tertiary students as well as child, adult and community groups on the Bundanon properties and external venues.
  • Present educational tours of the Art Museum, Bundanon Homestead, Arthur Boyd’s Studio and property grounds to primary, secondary and tertiary students as well as child, adult and community groups.
  • Present introductory welcome tours and safety induction briefings.
  • Research and maintain knowledge of Bundanon’s exhibitions and engagement programs, collections and Artists in Residence projects for inclusion in the learning programs.
  • Prepare and set up for tours, workshops and special programs.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential

  • A degree in visual arts, art education, or a related field, or substantial professional experience in a visual arts practice.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching visual arts at the pre-school, primary, secondary or tertiary education level, or equivalent experience delivering educational programs in a gallery, museum, or community setting.
  • In-depth understanding of the K-12 visual arts curriculum and the ability to design and deliver lessons that meet these requirements.
  • Ability to effectively engage and teach individuals of diverse age groups and abilities, including those with specific education needs.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage effectively with students, colleagues, and community members.

Desirable

  • Willingness and ability to accommodate work schedules that include evenings and weekends as required by program needs.
  • Experience in developing adaptive teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs is preferred.
  • Additional qualifications in education or community engagement.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills are highly valued.

REQUIREMENTS 

All Bundanon employees are required to obtain: 

  • Working with Children Check. 
  • National Police Check. 
  • Driver’s license.
  • First Aid Qualification
