About the role:

Peabody are currently seeking a Mechanical Shift Engineer to join our Centurion underground mine, Our Centurion mine is located 160 kilometres west of Mackay. For more information on Centurion visit (centurionmine.com.au)

Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Manager, your role will be to provide onShift Engineering management to ensure safe and efficient mine operations through routine inspections, repairs, installations and maintenance of mining machinery.

Duties will include:

• Ensure underground mining maintenance activities are carried out in accordance with Health and Safety management plans by demonstrating your commitment to safety as a way of life, including the use of risk assessments, hazard identification and other safety requirement relevant to the role
• Ensuring high compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements and all Peabody and Centurion site policies and procedures
• Ensure all statutory inspections and maintenance tooling/safety equipment is maintained and periodic calibrations/inspections are recorded Ensure underground equipment compliance aligns with site standards
• Provide engineering and maintenance support for the mechanical tradespersons
• Coordinate maintenance activities
• Execute underground mine maintenance plans in consultation with the shift undermanager by leading the crew to ensure planned and allocated tasks are performed in a safe and competent manner to achieve specified targets
• Provide leadership and direction to maintenance tradespersons, including competency and authorisations, to meet operational requirements
• Liaising with OEMS regarding breakdowns and fault finding
• Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives
• Complete the engineering review process to assist the process engineers in understanding equipment unplanned delays
• Carry out incident investigation in conjunction with statutory officials to determine root cause and provide recommendations. Be aware of incident types that are classed as notifiable and manage accordingly.
• Carry out safety interactions paying particular attention to complex tasks and less experience personnel.
• Inspect and maintain a high level of housekeeping standards during your daily underground rounds.
• Show a high level of supervision and hazard awareness on a daily basis.
• Create a matrix of the trades' competencies on your shift, identify and organise training requirements to maintain these competencies.
• Provide supervision on breakdowns or complex tasks depending on level of difficulty and experience of the tradesmen.
• Coach and mentor tradesmen including apprentices.
• Manage contractors ensuring they have relevant competencies, work permits, risk management and supervision

About you:

• Desired qualifications in Explosion Protected Diesel Engine (DES)
• Previous experience supervising the repair and maintenance of underground mining equipment is essential.
• S1, S2, S3 and G2 qualifications
• Proficient with a computerised maintenance management systems (sap), MS Office and project management software
• Uncompromising commitment to safety
• Demonstrated problem solving and a Positive, Can Do Attitude
• Proven leadership, communication and organisational skills
• Ability to read and interpret maintenance plans, as well correct deviations and modify plans where appropriate
• The ability to work a varying shift pattern

In addition to the above, you will have a genuine commitment to safety and demonstrate a sound understanding of risk and hazard identification. You will be an exceptional team member with a flexible attitude and sound work ethic.
