This role will report to the Project Manger, and plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient and safe transportation of coal across a 40km circuit, including coordinating truck movements, monitoring driver performance, and maintaining compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
Responsibilities include -
- Schedule daily haulage operations
- Conduct and record all pre-start checks thoroughly and accurately
- Proactively monitor and enforce the maintenance routines to ensure appropriate Manage Maintenance subcontractors
- Liaise with the maintenance team and Project Manager in relation to all maintenance issues and schedules
- Ensure depot and equipment are clean, well presented and serviceable always and maintain workplace to standards
- Interaction with supervisors and project managers from the client when necessary
- Develop and enforce safety protocols, manage inspection/auditing to conform with relevant legislation and standards.
- Ensure sound working knowledge of Bulk Haulage Policies and Procedures
- Organise or ensure employee training sessions on machine handling, safety procedures and operational efficiency
- Manage and motivate drivers by setting clear expectations around productivity and performance standards, ensuring they accurately record loads
Additional (as required) -
- Fill in where needed as a driver for times of unforeseen shortages of staff
- Changing of tyres when needed
Requirements
- Experience as a supervisor effectively running a similar transport operation ideally having worked in the coal handling process, loading/unloading
- Sound understanding of appropriate legislation with regards to, Health and Safety and NHVAS requirements
- Proficient knowledge of mechanical workings & basic maintenance of trucks
- Sound communication skills in relation to staff interaction and providing leadership
and direction, with proven conflict resolution skills - Analytical thinking and problem solving
- Project management skill for coordinating logistics and optimising processes
- Truck Licence (Minimum MC) with side tipping experience.
- Loader and Forklift tickets desirable but not mandatory
- Order 43 medical and Standard 11 or prepared to obtain
- Ability to mentor, train and communicate with drivers and maintenance personnel
- Ability to meet deadlines, and mentor drivers to obtain the best outcome for the business
- Competent computer and literacy skills
