Betterland is a landscape design business specialising in constructing playgrounds for schools and kindergartens across metro Adelaide.
Brothers Laurie and Justin have carried forward their family legacy, taking pride in constructing quality, functional, safe and creative play environments for children, witnessing the joy that it brings children and entire school communities.
Betterland conceptualises and constructs unique natural play areas, sandpits, watercourses, play structures, shelter structures, amphitheatres, pathways and outdoor feature art items. Some of the schools that the Betterland has worked with include Burnside Primary School, Galilee Catholic School, Highbury Primary School, Stradbroke School, Heathfield Primary School, Largs North Kindergarten, Glenelg Primary School, Oasis Community Children’s Centre Salisbury and St Therese School.
The Role
Betterland is on a growth trajectory and Laurie and Justin require further support to manage the volume of incoming projects.
A Site Supervisor with a background in carpentry, or with similar structural landscaping experience is required to lead and work alongside a small team of semi-skilled tradesmen that currently support the onsite construction of playgrounds. The Site Supervisor will be hands-on, building and constructing playgrounds while simultaneously supervising the trade assistants.
The Site Supervisor will be required to read plans and be versatile across building structures/shelters, installing play equipment, fences, retaining wall seating, laying paving and concreting. Some elements of the role can be taught on the job (for example concreting), however it is essential that the Site Supervisor has carpentry experience and leadership qualities.
As an effective leader, the Site Supervisor will lead the team with a good work ethic, a positive working attitude, client engagement skills, organisational skills and a deep care for doing quality work.
The Site Supervisor will be fully supported by Laurie and Justin, who manage all job planning, estimating and purchasing requirements, reducing the administrative function that can often be associated with Site Supervisor positions.
With regards to project planning, typically one job is worked on until completion before moving onto the next, minimising the need for any complex site scheduling, and allowing the team to build a trusting relationship with each school community’s stakeholders. Additionally the use of wet pour rubber is mixed and prepared on site by the Betterland team, preventing project bottlenecks.
Start time is typically 7.30/8am, with there being some flexibility with hours work as required.
Salary
$100,000 - $120,000 + Super + Car
(bracket caters for variance in trade skills and leadership experience)
