Smp Supervisor - Workshop And Site-Based

Melco Engineering Pty Ltd is currently recruiting for SMP Supervisor to join our dedicated Bowen-based, and site-based team.

Who are we?

Melco Engineering is a heavy fabrication business headquartered in Mackay, with operations in Paget and Bowen.  We have large-scale facilities and fabricate a range of products, including many large-scale products. We have an established SMP business, providing works for asset owners, Tier 1 contractors, and major design houses in the mining, ports, sugar, and industrial sectors on fabrication, fabrication, and installation or site works bases.  We are seeking to grow our capability and business in SMP services.

You will work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, with an established workforce of tradesmen and apprentices, in a business with growth settings.

Key Responsibilities:

• Set the standard for HSE performance and ensure compliance to all Melco safe work practices, procedures, and policies of all team members under your direction.
• Provide job-checking support as required for any current Melco job in regard to dimension, quality, and welding checks.
• Take a lead role in allocated specific jobs to ensure these jobs are being executed to the highest safety, quality, and productivity standards.
• Assign and Support Leading Hands to drive safety, and cleanliness and to achieve benchmarks set in the relevant Scope of Works 
• Perform productive light to medium fabrication, and repairs not limited to structural, mechanical, and pipework, making sure welding and assembly tasks adhere to the highest standards 
• Provide general and task-specific training on a regular basis to all employees, with a particular focus on apprentice skills development
• Participate in and support the functions of all workplace committees
• Liaise with the Production Superintendent to develop and implement ongoing improvement initiatives in regard to Safety, quality, and productivity.
• Ensure all administrative functions are completed with the highest attention to detail including clockings, QA records, timesheets, equipment maintenance checks, etc.
• Liaise with QA Manager to ensure all NDT benchmarks are met on schedule.
• Liaise with QA Manager to ensure all job-specific weld certifications are completed and up to date.
• Where required assist in the completion of Incident reports, JSEAs, Risk Assessments
• Active role in the growth of Melco’s SMP business, through developing existing and new customer relationships.
• Supervising trade employees, sub-contractors, and apprentices

Essential Skills & Qualifications

• Trade qualified Fitter or Boilermaker
• Demonstrated supervision experience with installation, repairs, and maintenance
• Demonstrated ability in project tendering, preparation, planning and execution experience
• Excellent working knowledge of onsite HSEQ processes
• Proven ability in developing risk assessment and project execution documentation

Desirable Skills & Qualifications

• Relevant High-Risk Work Licences
• Relevant post-trade qualifications such as a Diploma of Project Management or the like
• Intermediate computer experience with MS Office packages
