Townsville Hospital and Health Service is the public healthcare provider for more than 250,000 people across a geographic area of 150,000km2, delivering a comprehensive range of services across 21 facilities, from primary care in regional locations to highly specialised care at the main hospital.

Townsville University Hospital, located adjacent to one of Queensland’s leading tertiary institutions, James Cook University, is the largest tertiary hospital in northern Australia, providing specialist referral services for 700,000 people living from Mackay, to the Torres Strait, to the Northern Territory border.

About your opportunity:

Permanent full-time / Location: Townsville

This opportunity is for First Nations graduate Social Workers to join our Social Work team at Townsville University Hospital. As a graduate Social Work, you will be delivering Social Work clinical services as a member of a multidisciplinary team to stakeholders/customers of Queensland Health.

The First Nations Allied Health Graduate Pathway will provide a culturally safe and supportive entry to practice. The Pathway is two years in duration and includes enhanced training, development and cultural mentoring support. There is dedicated time provided to complete the pathway equivalent to 1 day/fortnight.

You will have the opportunity to work in a variety of clinical areas including acute wards and rehabilitation settings. Supervision will be provided to optimise clinical and professional skill development and learning. Professional development opportunities are also available to enhance clinical experience. Graduates are additionally supported by the Clinical Education Support Officer who provides support and mentorship during this transitionary period and facilitates a peer group community of practice and peer group learning opportunities. You will be working in a supportive and friendly department where autonomy and innovation are highly valued, and ongoing learning and professional development opportunities are encouraged and supported.

What's on offer?

  • Generous remuneration package value up to $132,730 p.a. comprising:
  • Salary range of $2941.70 to $4459.00 p.f. (HP3)
  • 4 weeks annual leave with 17.5% loading
  • 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation.

Candidate Requirements:

  • The successful applicant must hold at least a tertiary degree (or equivalent) qualification in social work that provides eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
  • Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community.
  • This is a Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) risk role: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Pertussis.
  • Probation period may apply.
  • Pre-employment checks will be conducted.
