What you'll be doing
The Social Worker will support the clinical activities of Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) Older Peoples Mental Health Service within acute inpatient unit by providing high quality, evidence based social work assessments and intervention services to support the provision of comprehensive mental health assessment, care planning and evaluation for older people with mental health problems. This Social Worker position provides clinical social work interventions to consumers and carers with complex and severe mental illness and aging issues. The position will provide high level services throughout consumer’s recovery journey at the Older People’s acute mental health unit and take a lead role at the discharge planning and community re-integration.

Essential Requirements:
- Qualifications: Tertiary qualifications in Social Work
- Registration: Eligibility for Australian Association of Social Work (AASW) membership
Selection Criteria:
- Substantial experience and skills in Social Work assessment, planning and evaluating interventions for older consumers with complex mental health conditions and comorbidities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Demonstrated working knowledge of NSW Mental Health Act 2007 and NSW Trustees and Guardian Act 2009.
- Demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge, skill, and significant clinical experience in in professional and clinical supervision, and support of staff.
- Demonstrated ability to independently problem solve, apply professional and ethical boundaries when working with complex situations as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability to initiate, lead, complete and evaluate quality improvement initiatives and/or research focused on patient/consumer outcomes.
- Class C Driver’s License
