Opportunity to work with a highly experienced social work  team, and multidisciplinary team  in the Child Development Unit at The Children's Hospital Westmead. The role provides support to children and their families through the diagnostic and assessment process and transition to intervention services  

What you'll be doing

The primary focus of this position is to provide a comprehensive and specialist social work service to children, young people and their families referred to the Child Development Unit (CDU) at The Children’s Hospital Westmead. The CDU is a tertiary state wide diagnosis and assessment unit for children aged 1- 16ears referred with complex developmental disorders which includes autism spectrum disorder, severe learning difficulties, disruptive behaviours and language disorders. The Social Workers role includes attending to Intake, Triage of appointments, psychosocial assessments, specialist counselling, group work, psycho-education and advocacy. The Social Worker works as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team.
The senior social work is required to play a key role in service development and continuous quality improvement to ensure clinical needs of children and their families are met. The position takes a leadership role in the development and provision of education programs in the relevant specialty for both Social Workers and health professionals within SCHN and externally. The Social Worker also provides a consultative role within their specialisation to key stakeholders. 

An eligibility list will be created for future permanent part time and temporary part time vacancies.

  1. Eligibility for AASW membership with significant post graduate experience in social work practice with families and children and/or in health context.

  2. Substantial post graduate experience in social work practice with children and their families.

  3. A well-developed knowledge of the psycho-social challenges facing families with a child with developmental disabilities and a sound knowledge of relevant community resources and support services available to the children and families.

  4. Significant post graduate experience in a variety of social work interventions/modalities including psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention, case management, counselling, group work.

  5. Excellent demonstrated interpersonal and written communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.

  6. Demonstrated skills and experience in clinical supervision, professional education activities, service planning, and quality improvement activities.

  7. Capacity to share after hours and weekend on call duties.

  8. Competent computer skills and ability to adapt to new IT systems.
