About the role:

Family Violence Command leads Victoria Police with a coordinated, streamlined response to this high-profile, critical topic. The Command is responsible for the delivery of high-level projects that will enable Victoria Police to improve police responses to the family violence, sexual offences and child abuse themes.

The IDI unit collates, coordinates and produces strategic intelligence and organisational support products, supports projects, and conducts reviews relating to the above themes. The team works closely with internal and external stakeholders to identify key intelligence gaps, intervention and prevention opportunities to best support our front line and organisational and response activities.

The Special Analyst role provides authoritative strategic advice to Victoria Police decision makers on the results of intelligence gathering and analysis, including the identification of trends and emerging issues. You will contribute to Victoria Police intelligence holdings by remaining conversant with current national and international criminal, technological, legal and operational trends in family violence, sexual offending and child abuse, and the intelligence tools being utilised in analysis and reporting.

The IDI unit is a team of four - a VPS6 Manager, two VPS5 Specialist Analysts including the advertised role, and a VPS4 Data Analyst. This role reports directly to the Manager and has no direct reports itself.

Your duties will include:

  • Conducting analysis on trends, issues and drivers and preparing high quality reports to inform senior decision makers, utilising a wide array of data sources
  • Informing the intelligence priorities for Family Violence Command and authoring relevant intelligence products
  • Engaging with the Family Violence Intelligence Community of Practice, monitoring and reviewing as needed in order to support Family Violence Analysts across the state.
  • Maintaining a high level of knowledge of the family violence, sex offending and child abuse themes, by conducting research and environmental scans
  • Provide expertise and advice to a range of internal stakeholders.

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Strong analytic skills and able to work with a range of data types
  • The ability to think strategically and identify opportunities to support operational and strategic objectives
  • The capacity to work in a small team, as well as independently
  • A strong work ethic and desire and ability to establish positive and productive relationships in the workplace
  • Good communication skills, comfortable with presenting to a range of audiences
  • The capability to mentor others in order to promote their technical growth

Requirements and relevant information:

  • One (1) x full-time, ongoing position available.
  • This position is located at Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
  • Successfully complete the modules of a Victoria Police approved Intelligence Program relevant to the role as determined by the Region / Department / Command and qualify within 18 months from enrolment.
  • Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
  • The successful applicant will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
