About Potash

The Jansen project in Saskatchewan, Canada is set to become one of the largest potash mines in the world and is located approximately 140 kilometers east of Saskatoon.  BHP’s CAD$14 billion (US$10.5 billion) investment in the Jansen project will deliver a potash mine in Saskatchewan designed to maximize sustainability. As the largest investment in Saskatchewan’s history, Jansen is expected to generate approximately 5,500 workforce opportunities during construction and 900 long-term roles.  
Jansen's construction will take place over several years with first production planned for late 2026. Once fully ramped up, Jansen is expected to have an initial production capacity of approximately 8.5 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa), with the potential to produce 16 to 17 Mtpa in future stages. Reporting to the Emergency Response Superintendent, the Specialist Emergency Response will supervise the Field Response Team(s) in the execution of Emergency Responses, fire safety and rescue equipment inspection programs, training, rescue planning and community engagement.

About the Role

In this role you will:

  • Develop policies and procedures that provide direction for safe and effective Emergency Response operations.
  • Respond to and improve the effectiveness of Emergency Response services to uplift organizational capability in managing emergencies/incidents. 
  • Identify and engage external stakeholders that may be involved in an emergency event at the BHP Jansen site.
  • Provide direction and oversite for projects related to emergency management.
  • Identify and assess risks, make risk informed decisions, use BHP's risk management framework, and build a risk aware culture to support safe and productive performance outcomes. 
  • Manage resources towards ensuring the fire safety inspection and audit program is executed as planned and entered into SAP.
  • Ensure all team members are meeting the required field leadership obligations.
  • Ensure all mine rescue and Emergency Response equipment is inspected and maintained in compliance with site standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Responsible for monitoring, executing, and documenting the training requirements of the field response teams.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of emergency exercises.
  • Act as a liaison with operations and construction work planning functions and develop rescue pre-plans as required.

About You

  • Previous experience in Emergency Response, preferably within the industrial or mining sector. 
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR.
  • Possession of mine rescue certification is an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of relevant health, safety, environmental regulations and standards.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to train and instruct others effectively. 
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking abilities.

Working Conditions

  • Availability to respond to emergencies on a short notice.
  • Potential exposure to challenging and physically demanding situations during Emergency Responses

Work Location and Schedule

This role will be based at the Jansen Mine site located in Leroy, SK with a 7 X 7 rotational work schedule.
