About the Gulflander:
One of Australia's most unique railways, the Gulflander is a rail journey like no other. Originally built to connect the once bustling river port of Normanton to the gold fields of Croydon, today the Gulflander is a tourism icon and ventures through countryside that most people will never see.
About the role:
We are seeking a Station Assistant (Guard) to join our Gulflander team based in Normanton on a permanent full-time basis.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that delivers all aspects of the Gulflander tourism rail service. As a Station Assistant some of the duties will include:
- Platform announcements and active platform management
- Perform guard duties when required to work on board the Gulflander - this includes shunting (moving) the train, securing rollingstock doors and connecting hose bags beneath rollingstock
- Provide exceptional customer service to travelling customers and the local community - this includes assisting with customer luggage
- Operating station machinery and equipment
- Cleaning the station, the Gulflander and maintain the pristine gardens
- Assist with answering the phones and processing bookings
Roster / Hours / Salary
This role generally works between the hours of 0700 and 1530 Monday to Friday and there will also be a requirement to work weekends, public holidays and overnights in Croydon as required.
The Gulflander operates from approximately the end of March through to December every year. During the off season you will be working with the team to focus on the maintenance of the station facilities, gardens and the equipment.
About you:
- The ability to work autonomously but also within a team environment
- Good communication skills coupled with a customer focused attitude to ensure a positive experience with customers
- Strong work ethic and willingness to go the 'extra mile'
- A safety conscious attitude
- Ability to undertake a variety of manual handling tasks including cleaning and lifting of heavy luggage up to 20 kilograms
- Previous cleaning experience or admin experience (ticketing or booking of travel) is desirable but not essential
- Hold a current 'C' Class Drivers Licence - required
- An annual salary of $66,000 + 12.75% super + any applicable penalties and allowances.
