Curtin’s Faculty of Science and Engineering is a place where students and staff alike can apply their studies and research to real-world industry challenges. We are involved in a variety of high-impact research initiatives, across several schools in the Faculty of Science and Engineering.
The Faculty’s STEM Outreach team is committed to providing opportunities for future scientists, engineers and their educators to learn more about the world of STEM and the exciting careers open to them. We have an exciting opportunity for an expert who has a knack for organising engaging activities and events to join the dynamic team.
Key duties and responsibilities include:
- Coordinate and implement outreach initiatives and activities aimed at encouraging school-aged students to pursue educational and career pathways in STEM.
- Communicate the University’s science and engineering-related activities to target audiences including school students, parents, teachers, current university students, and the wider university community.
- Organise and deliver captivating school visit workshops, festivals, and related activities. Monitor their effectiveness and report on activities in collaboration with key staff.
- Support other Student Engagement and Outreach initiatives that enrich university STEM students’ study and extra-curricular learning.
- Supervise and train university students to support the delivery of STEM engagement and outreach activities.
- Develop resources and activities beneficial to students or teachers, enhancing learning opportunities, and promoting STEM pathways – especially for those traditionally underrepresented in STEM
- Collaborate effectively, and when necessary, work autonomously on projects and initiatives delivered with internal and/or external partners.
- Maintain relationships with relevant university staff and students, industry professionals, government entities, alumni, and other stakeholders.
Prior to the appointment, the preferred candidate will need to have:
- Completion of relevant degree (education or a STEM related discipline) with subsequent relevant experience; or an equivalent combination or relevant experience and education/training.
- A current Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain one.
