Your new role
As a Senior Hull and Structures Engineer on a significant defence program, you will operate as the Design Acceptance Representative (DAR), ensuring that designs align with specifications and regulatory requirements. Your key responsibilities include:
- Leadership and Governance: Provide leadership and establish the governance framework for ship hull and structures
- Collaboration: Work closely with external subcontractors and design houses to ensure adherence to the governance framework.
- Engineering Delegation: Obtain and maintain the DAR engineering delegation for Hull and Structures Engineering.
- Compliance and Assurance: Ensure projects meet statutory obligations and conform to ADF regulatory requirements in the domain of ship hull and structure.
- Review and Oversight: Evaluate artefacts produced by Material Subcontractors related to ship hull and structure, ensuring alignment with Engineering Delivery processes.
- Technical Risk Assessment: Understand the technical risk of each project, supporting progress monitoring within the DCE scope of work.
- Endorsement of Technical Risks: Develop, review, and endorse Technical Risks associated with Engineering Changes.
- Participation in Forums: Engage in forums such as the Interface Control Working Group (ICWG) and System Reviews
What you'll need to succeed
- NV1 Clearance is required.
- Systems Engineering Proficiency
- Hull and Structures Expertise: High degree of understanding in ship hull and structures design practices.
- Regulatory Familiarity: Knowledge of current rules and regulations related to ship hull and structure.
- Structural Design Acumen: Good understanding of structural design, considering sea-going loads, fatigue, shock, and vibration.
- Manufacturing Knowledge: Familiarity with manufacturing and fabrication methods, including welding, surface preparation, and preservation.
- Effective Communication: Excellent communication skills, both within a team environment and autonomously.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Ability to partner with and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to achieve necessary deliverables.
- Educational Qualification: A degree in a relevant discipline such as Naval Architecture or equivalent.
- Engineering Chartership eligibility is highly regarded.
