ABOUT THE ROLE
As the Student Success Counsellor, you are a key part of the Student Support and Engagement team at Chisholm and will provide holistic, wrap-around support to the young adult cohort.
In your role, you will help students achieve their study goals, engage in student life, and balance their personal wellbeing and welfare needs through both individual and group support.
Additionally, you will-
  • Support to students through drop-in sessions, appointments, class talks, presentations, workshops, resource creation, facilitating social connection opportunities and supports educators.
  • Deliver short term counselling and wellbeing services to Chisholm VCE / VM students, with the aim of improving student outcomes through early identification, intervention, support, referral and includes first response to students in crisis.
  • Work with key internal and external stakeholders, provide support and/or guidance as an initial response to a student in crisis and complete post crisis activities.
  • Maintain timely and accurate caseload records and other statistical data in adherence to Chisholm reporting requirements and government regulations.
  • Provide specialist expert advice to staff across the organisation on matters of critical incidents, specialist support services and avenues of referral relevant to student needs including agencies such as psychiatric triage services, police, child protection.
  • Complete comprehensive intake and risk assessments in-line with best practice and Chisholm policies and processes.
Note- in this role, you will Co-locate operationally within our Senior Secondary Schools and Pathways Department to increase understanding, normalise the presence of support services and readily respond to staff and student needs as part of early intervention, and tailored support.
ABOUT YOU
You will have
  • relevant degree and relevant experience; or other formal qualifications with substantial experience and specialist expertise. You may hold qualifications in psychology, counselling, social work, or community services.
  • demonstrated experience in short term, pragmatic counselling experience in an education setting.
  • demonstrated experience in supporting student well-being and engagement in a youth environment.
  • understanding of the youth service system, and knowledge of a range of interventions relevant to young people.
  • understanding of financial and accommodation challenges faced by students, with the ability to provide guidance.
It would be considered desirable if you have Case management expertise, and relevant knowledge of community, government, and private welfare support services and or experience as a psychologist/counsellor/welfare provider to high-risk clients requiring case management, referral, crisis, and reactive support services.
