PRIMARY DETAIL
Salary Package: $83,580 per annum (HEW level 5), plus 17% superannuation.
Appointment Type: Full-time, Continuing role
Location: Macquarie University, Wallumattagal Campus, Dharug land, North Ryde

THE ROLE

The Student Wellbeing Officer will provide first point of contact, initial support and referral for students accessing wellbeing services.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide first contact support to students who are self-accessing or referred to Student Wellbeing and ensuring appropriate initial support or escalation as required.

  • Apply mental health first aid including initial risk assessment.

  • Assist in identifying wellbeing issues that may impact a student's participation, progression and success.

  • Guide student access to services that support improved wellbeing by promoting, referring and encouraging participation in services, educational programs and other related supports and programs.

  • Contribute feedback, information and data that assists in the development of wellbeing resources, programs and support for students.

  • Assist team members in the practical implementation of programs, initiatives and student plans to ensure accessibility and wellbeing needs are supported effectively.

  • Review, assess, communicate and follow-up Student Wellbeing queries in accordance with established policies and procedures.

  • Process written, email, phone or in-person enquiries in a timely manner.

  • Monitor own workload and work application to deliver high quality and effective student support.

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of Student Wellbeing projects.

  • Contribute to wellbeing service delivery continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Comply with relevant EEO and WHS regulations.

  • Perform any other duties as required and appropriate for this classification.


Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Formal qualification and previous experience in a wellbeing role.

  • Mental Health First Aid (or equivalent) and/or willingness to partake in internal training.

  • Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Highly motivated to make a positive impact on student life at the University.

  • Know how to respond to the needs of groups of students, providing information and advice, clarifying procedures and responding to feedback.

  • Able to analyse data provided by external agencies or other university departments, such as data regarding student satisfaction.

  • Analyse student case load and report trends to managers and colleagues across Student Wellbeing.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic (DVC-A) is the chief academic officer of the University and is the member of the University Executive with overall responsibility for the planning, quality and delivery of education provided to Macquarie's undergraduate and graduate students.

Within the DVC-A, the Dean of Students has overall responsibility for student support services and student experience including Student Engagement, Equity, Diversity and Belonging, Complaints and Misconduct, and Student Wellbeing Services.

  • Strong customer service focus and ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
