About the Role

We are looking for someone to join our youth and community team (YAC) on a part time bases for a 12 month contract. This role will be based in a school setting which means it will be during school hours. 

The Student Wellbeing program works closely with partner high schools and primary schools within the Sydney and Illawarra regions, to deliver student resilience and wellbeing services to school students through group and individual support.

Reporting to the Youth and Community Manager, the Student Wellbeing Officer will be responsible for the below duties, such as:

  • Provide students with support and/or appropriate referrals, in difficult situations such as during times of grief or when students are facing personal or emotional challenges.
  • Organise and facilitate one-on-one and group sessions with students and staff, and prepare materials and resources as needed.
  • Facilitate community partnership programmes between the school and the wide community, under the direction of the school principal.
  • Develop relationships with, and refer students to, specialist services within the school or externally as appropriate, under the direction of the school principal.
  • Provide individual support to all referred students and ensure individualised plans are developed collaboratively with students to identify goals and strategies for their engagement at school or other agreed education objective.
  • Ensure all activities are risk assessed and a risk management plan is developed in consultation with participating schools.

About You:

The ideal applicant we are seeking will have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification Certificate IV in Youth Work or related discipline.
  • Knowledge of the NSW Education system and general school operations
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Child Protection Act
  • Current NSW drivers licence and access to vehicle
  • Demonstrated experience assisting disengaged young people to remain in school or participate in further education through coaching and mentoring.
  • Experience working in culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
  • Experience building rapport and working relationships with stakeholders and program participants and ability to forge effective partnerships with a range of key stakeholders.
