Canadian Lead Primary School strives to nurture the potential of every child, enhancing their knowledge, skills, and wellbeing, and promoting a positive and healthy approach to learning and life. The values of respect, responsibility, learning, kindness, and community underpin all activities in our school. Our school, located in Ballarat East, has an enrolment of 210 and we run 10 classrooms, with specialist LOTE, PE, art, music and health classes.
Significant emphasis is placed on the building of strong skills in literacy and numeracy, particularly the Big 6 of Reading - oral language, phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension. Our school is committed to using evidence-informed approaches to teaching. Instructional coaching is a key improvement strategy in 2024. We are a Professional Learning Community Link School, implementing data-driven inquiry cycles focused on improving student learning outcomes and we are also a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support pilot school, embedding a tiered approach to student learning and wellbeing. Teachers work closely together in units, planning and reviewing data together. Teamwork and a strong sense of collegiality are a feature of our school. We offer staff a number of middle-leadership opportunities and we are proud of our capacity to develop outstanding teachers alongside continual growth in learning for students.
Our school also focuses on the emotional wellbeing of our students, using a range of evidence-informed wellbeing programs. We are a Berry Street Education Model school and this year we are undertaking School Wide Positive Behaviour Support training.
